running in circles

Day 2 Week 3.   I completed this one week after the Day 1 gig.  I’ve been moving and things have been a bit hectic.  In fact I have no computer or internet access yet so I’m doing this from my iphone!

chasing pigtails

My brilliant idea for this morning was to run around while my kids were playing baseball at the Wormwood Scrubs playing fields and sports centre – right next to the prison bearing the same name but known fondly as “the scrubs”.  It also boasts the Linford Christie track stadium.  So today I decided to run in circles for a change.  I kind of liked it…. brought back memories of my track and field days at Poquoson High School.   In fact I was a bit nervous.   However, it was a bit disheartening to be able to exactly figure out the distance I actually ran.  Sheesh.  It wasn’t much.

I was also having a hard time keeping up with this girl, about six, who easily did a couple of 400m laps.  Pigtails flying and a few hops and skips added for fun.   Arms thrown victoriously in the air at the end of each lap as if she just won an Olympic race .  Maybe I will try that next time….the pigtails that is.

  1. Welcome back Cathlin! I hope there is still room for me to shack up at your new place when I get there – only two months away. Woot!

I’m inspired by your post to start celebrating at the end of each running section on my C25K podcast. Hands in the air? A little twirl? High kicks? I’ll have to try them out to see what works best and makes me look least like a crazy person to the neighbors.

  2. Plenty of space….just a bit further to walk places. Need to get our theater tickets! Yeah you go ahead and do some high kicks and a couple of twirls!!! Any cance for a mini celebration.

  3. “Pigtails are the most fun hair can have.” Saw that on a greeting card once, which I bought, of course 🙂

I’m not ashamed to admit that I do sometimes pretend I’m breaking a winner’s tape at the end on my training route. I make the hushed roar of a crowd cheering… I really do! There’s something to be said for the motivational enthusiasm of a 6-yr.-old, yes, there is.
    (Hope your move goes well!)

    • I have on occasion put my hair in pigtails..much to the embarassment of my family. Come to think of it I do feel a bit sassy when I do.

  4. Great pic. She’s even using the outside lane.
I’m doing the pigtails and celebration at the end.
I saw Billy Eilliot last night — awesome — and these little girls and boys were so full of energy. I think it elevated the adults performance to keep up with them and their joie de vivre.
Look to kids…they have the answers.

    • Heather and I are going to see Billy Elliot when she comes to London.

Children. Definitely a constant source of inspiration and wisdom. Today while escorting a class of seven year olds to swimming lessons I learned that it is indeed possible to burp the entire alphabet.

      • Oh, I’m so glad you are seeing Billy Elliot in London. The woman behind me last night said she loved this show but thought the London production was better.

Burping the entire alphabet WHILE walking to swim lessons. See…geniuses.

      • Now I really can’t wait to see Billy Elliot!
