oats & grass. day ONE.

First I made these for breakfast. Maple Oat Scones from Cooks Illustrated.

Not fattening. Pretty good food photography. Though. And Delicious.

Then I STARTED MY FIRST DAY of Running training. The 8 week course for beginners.

Which meant I walked.

Here. In my field of dreams in my backyard in Cold Spring, NY.

I did the 30 minute walk, briskly, very briskly through our field and then into the woods. I was sweating and it was a beautiful fall’ish day here. I find that walking fast, with a purpose, the intent to raise the heart-rate is actually very challenging. The motion almost gets so awkward that I want to run. So, that’s a good thing. When soon I start alternating walking with running.

Off to a promising start.

Also, my iPod touch was on “shake to shuffle”. Not recommended. As each slight bounce jiggled the Ipod and changed the song. It was a bit manic.

That’s me. I’m starting slow. Better chance for success. Cause, I really don’t like running. So, I’m going to have to learn to like it. And that means small manageable parts. And lots of success…acheived through attainable goals. And rewards of Prosecco.

I begin with walking. That’s what the program tells me to do. 30 minutes. This intro makes me a little sad. And feel a little pathetic. But. I’m okay with those feelings.

This 8-week beginners program is designed for individuals with little or no background in running. The workout starts out with only walking and gradually advances to walk/run workouts and finally to all running. If you feel you are a bit more advanced and would like to start with some running right away, choose your appropriate point in the program to start. Just remember not to start out too quickly.

If you have not exercised before, are over 40 years of age or have any injury or medical condition, you must get clearance from your doctor before beginning this program.

4o. Apparently is the magic number. One foot in cradle. One foot in the grave.
